Import your trades from MetaTrader

Export a report from MetaTrader and upload it to KaiTrader. Report uploads support MT4/MT5 HTML formats and need no additional installation. Report variants can differ by broker and terminal version.

Before you start: which import should I use?

Report upload (this page) needs no additional installation and supports the documented report formats. It is the right choice for importing your history the first time, and as a fallback whenever anything else fails.

The publisher script sends your trades after a double-click and confirmation, and produces more accurate data. Once your history is in, most traders switch to it for day-to-day journaling.

Step 1: Export the report (MetaTrader 5)

  1. Open MetaTrader 5 and show the Toolbox panel at the bottom (Ctrl+T, or View → Toolbox).
  2. Open the History tab.
  3. Right-click inside the history and choose All History, so nothing is left out.
  4. Right-click again and choose Report → HTML (Internet Explorer). Some versions call this Save as Report.
  5. Save the file somewhere you can find it again, your Desktop is a safe choice.

Choose HTML, not Open XML (Excel). KaiTrader reads the HTML report; an .xlsx file will be rejected before it is uploaded.

Step 1 on a Mac: where did my file go?

MetaTrader for Mac runs inside a compatibility layer, so its save dialog shows Windows drive letters (C:, Z:) instead of the usual Mac folders. This is the single most common place people get stuck.

In the save dialog, navigate to Z:, that is your real Mac filesystem. From there open Users → your username → Desktop, and the file will appear on your Desktop as normal.

If you save to C: instead, the file lands inside MetaTrader's internal folder, hidden from Finder. Easiest fix: in MetaTrader choose File → Open Data Folder, then drag the file out to your Desktop.

Step 1 on MetaTrader 4

  1. Open the Account History tab in the terminal.
  2. Right-click inside it and choose All History.
  3. Right-click again and choose Save as Detailed Report.
  4. Save the .htm file somewhere you can find it.

Step 2: Find your broker's server timezone

MetaTrader reports write times in your broker's server timezone, which is usually not your own. KaiTrader asks for it because guessing would shift every trade by hours and can move a late-evening trade onto the wrong day.

To find it: look at the clock in MetaTrader's Market Watch and compare it with your own clock. If the server shows 08:00 while it is 11:00 where you are, the server runs three hours behind you.

Do not assume your broker's timezone from where the company is based. Many trade servers run on UTC or on EET regardless of the broker's country, check the clock, do not guess.

Step 3: Upload it

  1. In KaiTrader open Trades, then Import.
  2. Choose the trading account the report belongs to. If you have none yet, create one under Settings first.
  3. Choose the source: MT5 report, MT4 statement, or CSV.
  4. Choose your broker server timezone from Step 2.
  5. Drag the file in, or click to browse, and press Import.
  6. Your trades appear under Trades, and the import shows up in the history at the bottom of the Import page.

Export your full history so opening and closing executions can be matched. Existing executions are ignored. If the history conflicts with saved positions, the import stops and your journal stays unchanged.

CSV files

If your broker gives you a CSV instead, choose CSV as the source. Your columns can be named anything: after choosing the file you map them to the fields KaiTrader needs.

You need at least: deal ID, instrument, direction (buy or sell), volume, price and time.

Something went wrong

“Could not find a Deals table”, the file is probably not a MetaTrader history report. Check you exported from the History tab and chose HTML rather than Excel.

The file is rejected before uploading, check the extension (.html or .htm for reports, .csv for CSV) and that it is under 5 MB.

The times are wrong: check the broker server timezone. Reuploading does not change saved execution times. Contact support before undoing an import containing journal notes, because undo can delete them.

Some trades are missing, export your full history rather than a date range, then upload again. Duplicates are ignored automatically.

A trade appears in two parts, or the import reports conflicting history: contact support@kaitrader.com. Do not undo imports containing journal notes, because undo can delete them. A conflict leaves saved data unchanged.
